How To Motivate Yourself And Ways To Do It

by | Jun 9, 2024 | Life

Motivation is the process of giving a person a reason or stimulus to act in a certain manner. However, in the context of an organization, motivation implies encouraging employees to perform in the best possible way with goal-directed behavior.

In our everyday lives, if anyone wants to change, motivation is a way to start. It can be anything like changing an old habit, solving a problem, or coping with challenges and opportunities.

Motivation does not always come from the outside. Many times, it prevails within us. According to this theory, motivation is fragmented into two parts: extrinsic and intrinsic.

Extrinsic motivation is any source that is influential and capable enough to produce an urge to do something. It can be the hope of earning a reward like money, gifts, or recognition. Alternatively, someone may also complete a task to avoid a punishment or lose privileges.

Intrinsic motivation, on the other hand, is driven by a person’s desire for inherent satisfaction rather than some separable consequence. It is neither pressure nor reward. Rather, autonomy, belonging, fun, purpose, competence, and curiosity drive the person.

BENEFITS OF MOTIVATION

  1. IMPROVES EFFICIENCY

Possessing the desired skills and qualifications is not enough to achieve a goal in any organization. There has to be a motivation to fill in the gap between ability and willingness to get the best out of someone’s work performance. A motivated mind is also capable of working with more innovative ideas and learning new skills, which adds to efficiency.

  1.  SELF SATISFACTION

Do not confuse satisfaction with goal achievement. Although both are achieved through motivation, prior to goal achievement, satisfaction gives happiness in small milestones. It means finding joy in every little achievement and is a kind of self-motivation that keeps up the pace. A satisfied individual aligns with a sense of contentment, happiness, self-worth and emotional balance in every walk of life.

  1. ACHIEVING GOALS

Whether it is a personal or professional goal, motivation is the key. When an individual is given a reason to work, they comply with the factors below to achieve the goal:

  • Best possible utilization of resources
  • A friendly work environment
  • Work is done in a coordinated and purposive manner
  • Incorporate self-discipline
  • There is no resistance to change
  • Increased productivity

STEPS TO STAY POSITIVE AND MOTIVATED

Staying motivated will make a person more joyful and productive. However, you have to be focused and willing to change your mindset through life modifications.

  1. THE ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE

Keep the morning as a blank slate and take control of the entire day. Starting the day with meditation can help to keep the negativity of the past stay in the past, and one can choose to be positive without resistance. Also, spending at least 10 minutes with a gratitude journal is an option as well. Through this, one will choose to start the day with a grateful heart and find good things to appreciate in life.

  1. WORK OUT

If a person is exercising regularly, staying positive and motivated becomes easier. For this, one doesn’t need to struggle for hours with heavy weights; getting involved in their favorite fun activity once a day will also work. Move your body for just 30 minutes, and it will help. Working out also gives the brain a sudden jolt of energy to re-engage. So, next time you feel unmotivated, do 10 pushups or go for a 5-minute walk.

  1. HEALTHY EATING

Eating healthy is not only advisable for the physical being but ensures a focused and motivated mind. Sugary foods might seem tempting and energizing for the moment, but they cannot support you for the entire day. One needs to eat a balanced diet to not feel depleted. For this, foods like salmon, trout, flax seeds, walnuts and eggs are highly recommended.

  1. SLEEP

Follow a consistent sleep schedule. Stay off your phone before you go to bed. This will ensure that you wake up in a good mood the next morning.

  1. STAY POSITIVE

Failure is a part of any job or passion. So, having the right mindset to avoid such roadblocks is very important in order to stay motivated. This is called the growth mindset, which is the essential tool to keep moving forward. It will help anyone to overcome professional obstacles, learn a new skill or face a personal struggle. In this, positive self-talk is key. Say kind and encouraging things to yourself, and your motivation will continue.

  1. SCHEDULE THE WORK

Every aspect is important in life, but staying organized makes everything happen without stress. One only has to schedule their daily routine and complete chunks of tasks on time. Taking breaks will keep one’s motivation high.

  1. TALK TO ENCOURAGING PEOPLE

Staying in touch with uplifting people will keep the spirit high. On the contrary, staying away from those who can drain and suck positivity out of you is wise. If you are not around motivating people it can drain your motivation fast.

CONCLUSION

Research shows that people who are positive and motivated are more satisfied with their life. They can accomplish anything they put their minds to with dedication and fulfillment. When feeling discouraged, find ways to stay motivated and work toward improving yourself, as it will change the quality of your life.
